Subscription Swachh

Problem

With the rapid adoption of UPI AutoPay, card mandates, and app-store billing in India, millions of users were losing money to forgotten or unused subscriptions. 


Surveys showed that over 60% of consumers saw recurring charges as a significant issue, with many struggling to track active subscriptions, cancel them due to hidden flows, or even identify which account was billed.

Insight

The research revealed that knowledge of active subscriptions alone doesn’t translate into cancellations. Fragmented tracking across payment rails, dark patterns in cancellation flows, and lack of timely reminders led to “subscription leakage.” Users wanted a single, transparent hub that could consolidate all subscriptions, provide clear alerts, and enable frictionless cancellation.

Solution

We designed Subscription Swachh, a mobile app that consolidates recurring charges across UPI, cards, and stores into one dashboard. 


Core features included:

  • Automated subscription detection

  • Insights panel quantifying spend and savings

  • Customizable reminders

  • Guided one-click cancellation flows. 


The MVP emphasized privacy and compliance, with RBI-compliant encryption, granular consent, and multilingual cancellation guidance. Advanced features like budget integration, inactivity scoring, and family plan suggestions were mapped to the roadmap.

Impact

The solution set clear success metrics: 

  • ≥90% accuracy in subscription detection

  • ≥80% coverage within 24 hours of onboarding

  • 90% cancellation completion rate

By addressing India’s fragmented subscription ecosystem, Subscription Swachh demonstrated the potential to save users thousands annually, build trust through transparent flows, and lay the groundwork for a scalable freemium model with AI-driven insights and fraud detection.
